Where on earth did these past two months go? January was seriously one of those “blink and it’s gone” type months for me and February ended up shaping up to be the exact same – it feels like only last week I was smoochin’ at midnight as the New Year rolled in with fireworks galore and the clinking of champagne glasses. But, with that being said, I still managed to pick up a serious collection of new faves that I’ve been cracking out non-stop over the two months!! It goes without saying that I’ve been dipping my toes into a whole new world of skincare as well as having a bit of a re-shuffle of my lifestyle faves so this should be a juicy ol’ list.
My Dermalogica trio –
Lots of gals I follow on the Gram got involved in the #SkinInfluencer campaign around Christmas time and while all of Dermalogica’s products looked sooo lush I never really knew if it was worth the hype of going out and purchasing them. That was until I won a Dermalogica advent calendar in one of their December giveaways and I started testing their products for myself and I can officially say … the hype is SO real. I’ve mainly been using the ‘Precleanse – cleansing oil’, the ‘Special cleansing gel’ and the ‘Multi-active toner’ and after a few weeks of cracking these bad boys out every other night, my skin is actually glowing. I HAVE A NATURAL CHEEK HIGHLIGHT PEOPLE, THIS IS THE NEXT LEVEL OF FABULOUSNESS WE’RE TALKIN’!! The precleanser smells like a citrus wonderland and even though it’s an oil, which admittedly scared the living daylights out of me initially, every time I’ve used it I’ve felt like I’m at a swanky lemontastic spa. Beyond that, the cleansing gel is so gentle and soothing on the skin and is definitely the true star of this group – it is simply incredible. Then to round off this ultimate team is the toner, which no joke smells like Refresher sweets at a hot spring which I love love love AND it leaves me dewy and glowy, what more could you ask for?
While I’m sure all of their products are wonderful, this little trio gets the sparkling Ellie stamp of approval because I don’t know how on earth I lived without them before. As a student, I’m not too sure I’m going to be able to repurchase my favourite lil threesome again anytime soon, but you better blummin’ believe they will be going at the top of every one of my birthday and Christmas wishlists for the rest of my life.
Stackers Jewellery Box –
So, for Christmas my brilliant boyfriend very, very kindly got me a Stackers jewellery box and while I definitely would’ve felt a lil guilty picking up one of these bad boys myself, it was hands down one of my favourite gifts. Firstly, it’s blush pink and rose gold which is the best combination of colours in the world, if I do say so myself, so that already made it a solid 11/10 present for me – but as well as that it has ‘Ell’ engraved onto the lid which is just the cherry on top of the ultimate jewellery box shaped cake. Not only does it look gorgeous but it’s sooo useful for a ring hoarder like myself, because unlike when I used to keep all of my jewellery in a slightly tangled mess on my trinket plate, now I can actually see all of it so I’m not just sticking to wearing the two rings I put on the bathroom counter the night before haha! It’s just become one of my absolute favourite organisation/decoration pieces in my room and I feel a lot more like a put together adult now, so thank you James you’re the bomb.com!!
‘Sex Education’ on Netflix –
Yep, I’m joining the bandwagon, but then again how could I not with such a fab show?! While I am guilty of indulging in a good ol’ Netflix binge more than I’d like to admit, this was just one show I could not refuse the privilege of the ultimate binge session. Myself and James watched this together in just under a week (we did try pacing ourselves as much as we could) and it definitely got the thumbs up from this duo. If you have yet to watch the show please, please give it a look at, because I for one loved it. Without wanting to spoil anything, it’s the perfect medley of cringey sexual interactions, belly laughing jokes, grab your tissues and ice-cream moments and of course, sex education. It’s certainly one of those shows that teaches you things, however, it isn’t in a glaringly obvious manner and at the end of the day I found it super interesting and entertaining which is always a great combo. For those of you who have watched it, I’ve gotta say, Aimee was hands down my favourite character, she was just the right medley of sass pot and goofiness which I really appreciate in a character so yep, go team Aimee over in this corner. I also, of course, loved Otis because he’s just so unlike any other characters we usually see on tv or in books and while I know there is progress in the representation of male characters combatting, for instance, mental illnesses or sexual orientations, I can’t think of an example of a character like Otis being super present in the media and I personally think the show did such a good job of that. So, roll on season two!!
Clinique moisture mask
This baby may be small, but she is certainly mighty. I actually received the Clinique moisture mask in a gift set at Christmas and didn’t really reach for it until the snow and ice started ramping up and my skin started getting drier. So one particularly crusty (pretty gross I know) evening I popped on a light layer of the mask before bed and woke up with the softest, baby skin ever. It’s just wonderful. I have been keeping it in reserve for particularly dry skin days but Clinique must be hiring from Hogwarts now because this stuff is some serious magic.
When the Curtain Falls
As embarrassing as this may be to admit as an English student, I had found myself falling out of love with reading since starting back at uni in September BUT ‘When the Curtain Falls’ has thankfully made me fall head over heels in love with the world of literature again. Another shameful admission from me if that I’ve never read one of Carrie Hope Fletcher’s books before, despite having seen her perform in both ‘The Addams Family’ and ‘Heathers’ and proclaiming my status as a die-hard Hopeful for years, I know I know – scandalous. However, I’ve always just been too nervous to not love her books as much as I desperately want to, but ‘When the Curtain Falls’ has very rightfully taken its place at the top of my ‘books that should be read until the end of the world’ list because it made me LOVE reading again. That probably sounds a tad dramatic, but I can honestly say this story saved this little bookworm’s life. Granted, it’s not Virginia Woolf classic, but that doesn’t matter to me in the slightest – it has romance, a sprinkle of sop, squeal-worthy twists and just the right amount of magic. Plus, it’s set in a theatre!! Can’t you just hear the theatre-lover inside of my musicals filled heart screaming and fist pumping the air?! I don’t want to spoil it in any way, shape or form because I honestly want everyone to have a copy of this on their bookshelves and be as madly in love with it as I am, so please, just take my word for it on this one.
So, even though Christmas is pretty far behind us now, I am still missing reaching for a box of Roses while snuggled up with a blanket and a show in the evening, especially since I’m still trying to carry out the January health-kick I started. So, I think I have found a way to get around this problem, two words for you: Twirl Bites. Grabbing two or three (okay maybe four or five) little chunks of twirl as a cheeky evening treat has been my saviour. Either on their own, with a cuppa, or my current favourite … with a banana, they have put a massive smile on this girl’s chops. Maybe the banana option sounds a little loopy but just trust me, a bite of twirl and a piece of banana is like a mini imaginary banoffee pie in your mouth, it’s just the best – don’t knock it till you try it.
And with that, there you have my current faves!! Thank you so much for having a little peruse at this post, I know this was a real mixture of everything and anything so I hope there was at least something in there that you might grow to love (or even already love) as much as me!! I had such a fab time looking over what I’ve been loving over the past month and a half, it really taught me to appreciate the little things, y’know? Hope you all have the most wonderful week filled with all of your favourite things, gosh I sound like I’m in ‘The Sound of Music’ hahaha,
Lots of love, hugs and happy reading,
